Severe weather information you should know


First Responders - Your emergency is our emergency

During this kind of severe weather, some of the most frequent emergencies are

  • Downed Trees on the roadways
  • Trees falling on houses
  • Downed Power Lines – DO NOT APPROACH, CALL 911
  • Fires as a result of powerlines and transformers sparking and lighting trees on fire.
  • Cloud to ground lightning 
  • Vehicles under water – Turn around don’t drown 
  • Car accidents

If your power goes out, call your power company directly – NOT 911

Debris removal on personal property including trees

  • This is the responsibility of the homeowner 

Debris Reporting on Public Property

If you encounter tree debris on the roadways blocking your access, please call 911 to inform them so they can rearrange routes for emergency responders and then please call the appropriate dept(s) listed below to report the issue. 911 will notify the appropriate road dept if it is after business hours.

  • City Streets - contact the city garage 270-831-1234
  • Highways - Numbered highway, (Hwy 41, Hwy 60…) contact the Department of Transportation - 270-826-4145
  • County Roads, contact the Road Dept - 270-826-8843

NOTE: Remember, 911 and emergency services get inundated during severe weather events. Please, only utilize 9-1-1 for serious emergencies.  

NOTE: Following damage from severe weather, EMA will be flying a drone for situational awareness and damage assessment.
